Whitgift is a leading independent school on the outskirts of London set in an attractive 48-acre parkland site. During the summer holidays Whitgift runs its own summer school for international students and English student hosts, utilising all its fantastic facilities and is designed to appeal to girls and boys aged 11 - 17 from all over the world. Our 2017 summer school will run from 9 July to 13 August.
We are seeking to appoint a number of Activity Leaders and Senior Activity Leaders who will lead groups of students and supervise multiple activities throughout the summer school co-curricular programme. This programme will include sports, arts and craft, performing arts, evening social events and excursions.

Our 2017 summer school will run from 9 July to 13 August, with new staff induction days and summer school set up on 6, 7 and 8 July.
We are seeking to appoint a number of Senior Activity Leaders and Activity Leaders who will lead groups of students and supervise multiple activities throughout the summer school co-curricular programme. This programme will include sports, arts and craft, performing arts, evening social events and excursions.
ACTIVITY LEADERS - will lead groups of students and help supervise multiple activities. The activities will cover sports, arts and craft and performing arts. They will also be responsible for students on trips and evening social activities. Activity Leaders will also be required to assist with student arrivals and departures, accompanying students to and from the airport.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and lead activities, producing session plans for each activity
• Provide coaching to an appropriate level in any specialised field (be it sport or performing arts) in which you are suitably qualified
• Attend all activity and excursion briefings
• Read and understand the risk assessments for each activity/excursion you are involved in to ensure student safety at all times
• Facilitate assembly at pre-arranged points and times for each activity/excursion
• Orientate and help new students as required
• Engage and integrate the English Student Hosts and International students throughout the co-curricular programme
• Accompany and supervise a group of students on excursions
• Be aware of, monitor and manage students conduct and behaviour to promote a harmonious international community to ensure students enjoy and get the most out of each activity/excursion
• Complete attendance registers for each activity
• Write student weekly progress and end of course reports
• Undertake airport transfers warmly, positively and with flexibility following all timings accurately
• Provide a competent and professional meeting and departure service of the highest quality and with minimal waiting times
SENIOR ACTIVITY LEADERS - will work closely with the Activity Manager to ensure the delivery of the full co-curricular programme and assist with the daily organisation and running of the programme. They will lead groups of students on trips, teach academies and host social activities with the assistance of the activity leaders. Senior Activity Leaders will also be required to assist with student arrivals and departures, accompanying students to and from the airport.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist the Activity Manger to deliver and manage the day to day running of the full co-curricular programme
• Manage staff to engage and integrate the English Student Hosts and International students throughout the co-curricular programme
• Ensure that sessions plans and risk assessments are created by the Activity Team and prepared for every sport, activity and excursion that takes place
• Make sure all co-curricular activities are delivered competently, professionally and safely by the Activity Leaders
• Supervise and lead students on excursions and ensure their safe travel at all times
• Provide coaching to an appropriate level in a specialised field (be it sport or performing arts) in which you are suitably qualified
• Ensure that every part of the co-curricular programme (sport, social, excursions) is carried out safely and strictly and in accordance with Whitgift policies particularly those relating to staff supervision levels, staff code of conduct, risk assessments and registers to ensure student safety at all times
• Ensure attendance registers are completed effectively by the Activity Team
• Assist with the management of the House System
• Assist in day to day general duties as instructed by senior management
• Lead by example at all times and maintain extremely high standards throughout the team
• Deputise for the Activity Manager in their absence
• Write weekly student progress reports and end of course reports
• Undertake airport transfers warmly and positively and follow all timings accurately
• Provide a competent and professional meeting and departure service of the highest quality and with minimal waiting times

Qualifications

ACTIVITY LEADER:
Essential
• Previous experience working with children
• Passionate about sport, drama, music, arts and crafts or survival skills
• Ability to lead, supervise, engage and have fun with young learners
• Native/near native competence in spoken and written English
Desired
• Educated to degree level or currently studying for a degree/higher education qualification
• Sports and coaching qualifications (QTS in Sports or PE) or equivalent in Drama, Music and Performing Arts
• Experience of teaching/coaching in an international summer school or activity camp context
• HSE First Aid Certificate
• A good understanding of health & safety and safeguarding

SENIOR ACTIVITY LEADER:
Essential
• Educated to degree level
• Leadership experience in managing a team
• Experience in organising/supervising/leading activities and events
• Experience of teaching/coaching in an international summer school or activity camp
• Passionate about sport, drama, arts and crafts, music or survival skills
• Ability to lead, supervise, engage and have fun with young learners
• Native/near native competence in spoken and written English
• Sports, Teaching or coaching qualifications (e.g. QTS in Sports or PE) or equivalent in Drama, Music and Performing Arts
• A good understanding of health & safety and safeguarding
Desirable
• HSE First Aid Certificate

Salary and Benefits

ACTIVITY LEADER
£380 per week (plus holiday pay). All meals are provided while on duty.
The Activity Leader will work 6 days per week for the fixed term contract. The hours of work and day off will vary. This position requires you to work as necessary for the proper performance of your professional duties.
SENIOR ACTIVITY LEADER
£455 per week (plus holiday pay). All meals are provided while on duty.
The Senior Activity Leader will work 6 days per week for the fixed term contract. The hours of work and day off will vary. This position requires you to work as necessary for the proper performance of your professional duties.
