Details of Position

Discovery Summer runs a range of high quality residential summer courses for young learners/teenagers in top independent schools in England. In 2014 we were inspected by the British Council and awarded 13 strengths out of a possible 15. Discovery Summer is currently ranked as the top multi-centre summer school in the UK.
In 2016 we welcomed 69 nationalities including up to 10% English Student Hosts. The staff/student ratio is at least 1:5. We offer the highest level of pastoral care as well as a full, varied programme of after class activities and excursions. At least 60% of our staff return each year. Over the years we have built up excellent relationships with our host centres.
We are looking for a highly motivated, professional and experienced Director of Studies to work from early July for 3.5 to 5.5 weeks.
You will be a member of the Senior Management Team at the centre, responsible for the high-quality and smooth running of the academic programme. You will also be leading and managing a team of teachers providing teacher support, professional development and academic administration.
You will ensure every child has the opportunity to develop their language skills through interactive classes where the emphasis is on ‘learning through doing’.
Discovery Summer is committed to ensuring the safeguarding of children and young people and we expect our staff to share this commitment. To this end, all references will be followed up, gaps in CVs must be explained satisfactorily and appropriate suitability checks will be required prior to confirmation of appointment.


• Degree, higher qualification or equivalent (any discipline)
• Cambridge DELTA, Trinity LTCL Diploma TESOL or MA in Linguistics/TESOL (incl. 5 hours’ supervised teaching practice)
• Minimum 3 years' EFL teaching experience ideally with international young learners/teens
• Excellent administrative, IT, organisational and record keeping skills
• Proven team leadership abilities and a genuine interest in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of teachers to deliver a challenging , stimulating and varied academic programme
• Experience of Project Based/Task Based/CLIL learning
• Residential experience

Salary and Benefits

These are residential posts. Free board and lodging is offered. You will work a 6 day week.
Up to £700 gross per week + pre course preparation payment (£300) + statutory holiday pay (12.07% paid with final payroll)
