Details of Position

Summer Boarding Courses is a quality British Council accredited International Summer School operator, providing students with a British boarding school and Oxford college experience. In 2016 we welcomed students from over 100 countries.
This summer SBC will welcome students to 3 summer schools and 3 summer colleges. Our experienced management teams, outstanding facilities, comprehensive training and ongoing support mean your summer spent working with us will be a rewarding experience.

SBC teachers are an integral part of a successful summer and it is their ability to engage the students both in and out of the classroom in a fun and professional manner that ensures that students have the most rewarding stay.
VACANCIES:
We are currently recruiting for 3 courses at our SUMMER SCHOOLS:
• General English
• Summer Study
• Introduction to Business (Bournemouth only)
GENERAL ENGLISH:
For students of all abilities, this course has been specifically designed to further the development of our students’ communicative abilities. Through its topical content, students are encouraged to express their ideas and practise the relevant vocabulary and grammar, helping to increase their confidence in expressing themselves in English.
SUMMER STUDY:
Our Summer Study course offers a content-based learning approach for higher level students, providing students with the opportunity to develop their English skills through the study of other subjects. Subjects studied include History, Geography, Creative Writing, English Literature and Science and all lessons are taught in English.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS:
An exciting introductory course for aspiring business students with an intermediate level of English or above, this course enables students to learn about the theory of business, as well as marketing and finance. Students will also develop important leadership skills such as team-building, managing projects, independent research and presentation skills.
THE ROLE
Teachers work a 13 session week, with a session being either a morning, afternoon or evening. Of these 13 sessions, 5 are spent in the classroom, whilst the other 8 are spent leading activities or on pastoral duties, ensuring the safety and well-being of the students during meals, in break times, in the boarding houses and at night. This breakdown means it is important teaching staff actively engage in all aspects of the summer school programme. All teachers will receive one full day off per week.
TEACHING DUTIES:
The teachers report directly to the management team and must:
• Become familiar with the SBC syllabus, materials and resources during induction week
• Teach lessons using the SBC syllabus and other appropriate materials
• Maintain administrative systems by preparing and keeping class lists, records of work, class registers and preparing certificates and reports
• Attend to the individual needs of the students to ensure that maximum benefit is gained from their chosen course
• Manage the classroom behaviour effectively and ensure all students participate
• Attend meetings as requested by the summer school management
• Attend teacher development workshops
• Be observed by the Director of Studies and if necessary, the Academic Manager
SOCIAL PROGRAMME DUTIES:
• Engage fully in the social programme, leading, assisting and taking part in activities
• Assist in preparing activities if necessary
• Lead groups of students on excursions, following pre-planned itineraries
• Ensure that the students are safe and engaged in the activity or excursion at all times
GENERAL DUTIES:
All members of staff have a general duty to care for the students at the summer school and as such will be expected to carry out the following duties:
• Assist with meal time and break time supervision when required
• Support House Parent when doing the allocated day’s House Duty, including wake-up, escorting students around the school, supervising students while in the houses and lights-out
• Help ensure that the students do not breach the rules of the school
• Assist at any time, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation, or where a student is ill or injured
• Engage with the students outside of classes and assigned activity sessions in a friendly and professional manner
DATES:
SBC Oxford Summer School - Students aged 8 to 12, 14th July to 14th August 2017
Dukes International Summer School - Students aged 12 to 15, 7th July to 14th August 2017*
Headington Oxford Summer School - Students aged 13 to 16, 14th July to 21st August 2017*
* A small number of shorter contracts are available

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with the British Council accreditation scheme, all SBC Teachers must possess the required qualifications outlined below.
GENERAL ENGLISH EFL TEACHERS:
• Educated to degree level or above
• Trinity CertTESOL or CELTA, and/or Primary QTS or PGCE in English/modern languages with ELT/TESOL subsidiary
• 1+ year's professional teaching experience
• Passion for working with young learners
SUMMER STUDY TEACHERS:
• Educated to degree level or above
• Formal teaching qualifications are necessary, and in this case can either be through a BEd Primary / Primary PGCE / or CELTA / Trinity CertTESOL Certificate with experience in teaching the subjects covered in the Summer Study Syllabus.
• 1+ year's professional teaching experience
• Passion for working with young learners
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS TEACHERS:
• Educated to degree level or above
• Trinity CertTESOL or CELTA
• 1+ year's professional teaching experience, including experience teaching business
• Passion for working with young learners
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS (ALL TEACHERS)
• Previous residential summer school experience
• Experience of leading students in an extracurricular capacity
• An interest in sports / arts & crafts / music / drama
• First Aid, Life Guard and any sporting qualifications advantageous.
Please note; as a large part of the teaching role is spent engaging and leading students outside the classroom and in the Activity & Social Programme, applicants who can discuss their suitability in these areas will be at an advantage.

Salary and Benefits

All GENERAL ENGLISH teachers receive £500 per week.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS and SUMMER STUDY teachers receive £525 per week.
This includes holiday allowance at 12.07% of basic pay, plus accommodation on-site and full board, teachers will receive one full day off per week.
SBC is committed to the support and development of our staff, regular CPD sessions will be made available to summer staff.

SHOULD YOU BE SUCCESSFUL...
• We will require the details of two recent and relevant referees who we will contact.

• You will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (previously called a Criminal Records Bureau check), or equivalent if living outside the UK, and you will be asked to sign the Children’s Act 1989 declaration safeguarding the welfare of children, and state that you have no known reason why you cannot work with children.
• 2 types of official identification and certificates (either originals or certified copies) will be required for our records.
