Job Summary

Meridian School of English (part of the Tellus Education Group) has two well-established and growing language schools in Portsmouth and Plymouth. We are currently recruiting an experienced Director of Studies based in our Portsmouth School.
Experience is an advantage as you will manage a team of TEFL teachers, provide support to help them perform to their maximum potential, for ensuring standards of excellence are maintained. This role will involve both management and occasional teaching duties

Details of Position

You will also take on responsibility for maintaining and developing the high academic standard of the school.
The Director of Studies works closely with the Director of ELT Sales and Vocational Sales Manager.
Excellent communication skills are essential.
This role would suit a friendly, efficient leader with a strong interest in the TEFL industry.
The hours of work for this role will be 38.5 hours per week.
We are registered with and inspected by the British Council.
The key tasks include, but are not limited to:
Setting up the Curriculum/Syllabus for all courses provided by Tellus Group/Meridian Plymouth (including General English, Business English, Examination courses and bespoke courses, as required by Work Experience students and Professional Development Courses).
Selecting and sourcing the necessary materials and resources as required by the curriculum/syllabus for each course.
Academic Development of all ELT staff (observations, development, training and support).
Overseeing and coordinating preparation for British Council inspections for both Plymouth and Portsmouth.
Ensuring the quality of teaching and instruction meets with the school ethos of Academic Excellence at all times and as prescribed by British Council.
Ensuring that students satisfaction with the academic programme exceeds high expectations.
Dealing with student complaints on academic matters or any issues affecting the smooth running and/or reputation of the school.
Timetabling: both group and one-to-one classes and produce accurate registers for each lesson.
To hold regular staff meetings and ensure staff attendance.
To ensure all staff maintain current academic policies and practices and to conduct regular checks.
Ensuring staffing for new and existing courses is adequate in liaison with HR.
Teacher Development
Overall responsibility for:
Design and implementation of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for teachers.
Advice and support on teaching matters as required.
Keeping accurate records and ensuring that the teachers complete all the necessary administration.
Observations: to routinely undertake a programme of quality focused and developmental focused observations.
Selecting & ordering journals and methodology books.
Receiving and acting on regular feedback from teachers and students.
Other skills and attributes:

To maintain a positive approach to the school, its courses and student body at all times.

To represent and promote the school favourably at every opportunity.

To constantly be aware of improving standards and adapt to them where possible.

Qualifications

DELTA/DipTESOL or equivalent.
University degree or equivalent.
