To organise, oversee and be responsible for all operational aspects of the UK Summer Schools.

37.5 hours per week and to meet the needs of the business
Salary: £33,000 - £35,000 dependant on experience

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:
Establish and ensure that there are means of recruitment for all necessary
staff for the effective management and operation of all summer schools
Be responsible for the contracting of all academic, administrative and
ancillary staff in accordance with LAL policies, including interviewing,
assessing and appointments
Ensure that you are cognisant of all LAL IT systems including Infospeed
Class, LAN and other third party software
Obtain all necessary equipment and expertise for the effective
management and operation of all summer schools
Develop, create and publish all documentation consistent with the running
of effective summer schools in conjunction with the LAL Language Centres
(LALLC) Design and Communication department
Provide coherent and consistent leadership to all summer school Centre
Managers and all staff line-managed by the same
Obtain all necessary information from within LALLC, the summer school
providers and outside agencies to guarantee a smooth operation
Provide sufficient training, including, but not exclusively, detailed briefings
on IT, Child Safe-guarding, financial management, to all contracted staff in
advance of their arrival at the summer school
Understand fully the extent and limitations of the contract of premises and
facilities hire existing between LAL Summer Schools and the summer school
providers
Understand fully the extent and limitations of LALLC literature including
brochures, published prices, job descriptions, work manuals and work
sheets
Ensure safeguarding provisions are in place at all times in line with LALs
Safeguarding policy. and British Council Accreditation standards.
Liaise with summer school provider management, catering, maintenance
and administrative staff in advance, after and during the term of hire to
guarantee a smooth operation for the current and subsequent years.
Establish systems, in consultation with LALLC IT department, for the
management of the course including IT provision in the schools and
telephonic communication, to include the setting up of a course office.
Maintain systems for the managing of student pocket money, valuables,
passports and flight tickets.
Manage the allocation of accommodation in line with agreed client
preferences and LAL policy.
Manage the group capacity management sheets according to LAL and
market requirements.
Liaise and work with Admissions and the Commercial Department to obtain
essential information relating to bookings.
Ensure that all arrangements are in place with regard to the cleaning and
preparation of bedding, laundry and the maintenance of personal hygiene.
Ensure, where necessary, that local social and medical services are aware of
the course and its operations and that arrangements are in place in the
event of illness and injury or any other emergencies.
Ensure the satisfactory provision of food and drink to our clients
throughout the term of stay.
Manage and report financial expenditure to the Head of UK Operations.
Be responsible for the school expenditure of petty cash in support of the
course as managed by Office Managers and ensure all sums are spent wisely
and accounted for.
Be responsible for the financial administration for all summer schools to
include arranging debit cards or alternative payment systems for Centre
Managers.
Oversee and ensure the recruitment and provision of Host Homes for the
schools that require them.
Oversee the provision of the activity programme as managed at the schools
by Leisure Managers in keeping with client expectations, budget
constraints, contract limitations and published provisions.
Oversee the provision of the academic programme as managed by the
school Academic Managers, in consultation with the LAL Summer Schools
designated Head of YLs , in keeping with client expectation, contract
limitations and published provisions.
Oversee and co-ordinate smooth airport transfers to and from the summer
schools.
Ensure proper discipline is maintained throughout the duration of the
course.
Manage the stock and provisions throughout the duration of the course
and account for any loss and damage.
Ensure any and all complaints are handled to the mutual satisfaction of LAL
and the client.
To handle the school on-call phone on a rota basis
Carry out any other duties that may be reasonably assigned by the
Executive Manager UK or Head of UK Operations
Undertake any additional duties as required by the business

Person Specification:

Essential
Education, Training and Knowledge
a) A Level Standard or equivalent
Relevant Work Experience
a) 3 years previous management experience
b) Experience working with young people (under 18s)
c) Working in a residential summer school

Skills and Abilities
a) High customer service ethic
b) Utmost flexibility
c) Driving licence
d) Contract negotiation skills
e) Financial acumen
f) Excellent man-management skills
g) Good knowledge of current UK HR legislation
h) In depth knowledge of current UK child protection and safety legislation and procedures
i) Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 or later
j) Ability to work as part of a team

a) Willingness to work non-standard hours when required to meet the needs of the business, including evening and weekends, especially during the summer months

Desirable

a) Degree qualification or equivalent
b) CELTA, Trinity TESOL or DELTA qualification
c) Ability to speak another language in addition to English at least conversationally

Relevant Work Experience
a) 3 years experience working with young people in an EFL background
b) Recruitment and/or project management
c) Previous experience in a similar role in the UK

Skills and Abilities
a) Knowledge of at least one foreign language
b) Good understanding of foreign culture
