| Madrid (Rough Guide Directions S.) by Simon Baskett

Madrid is the sunniest, highest and leafiest capital in Europe and its inhabitants, the Madrileños, are so proud of the city that they modestly declare 'Desde Madrid, al Cielo' ('Beyond Madrid, only Heaven'). You can debate that claim, but this compact, fascinating and lively city has no shortage of appeal for a weekend break. Aim for late spring or very early summer - or September/October - when Madrid is really pleasant, as the mid-summer months can be overbearingly hot.
Madrid DIRECTIONS has all you need to get the most out of the city. Browse our ideas and you'll know what you want to do, 24 hours a day. Flip to places and explore the city district by district, with every sight, restaurant, bar and shop located on our easy-to-use maps. It's like having a local friend plan your trip.
Includes a FREE e-book CD containing the full text of the guide, complete with hundreds of web links. It is designed for use with PCs, Macs and all PDAs including Palm Pilots and Pocket PCs.

| Costa Brava Directions (Rough Guide Directions S.) by Chris Lloyd

The Costa Brava is perhaps the most unfairly maligned stretch of coast in Europe, long derided as a tacky, package-holiday destination, an image based solely on a couple of towns at its southern end. In truth, it is a diverse region of great natural beauty, with a rich cultural heritage and plenty to keep you occupied, whether you want secluded beaches, walled towns or chic restaurants and nightlife.

| The Rough Guide to Andalucia (Rough Guide Travel Guides S.) by Mark Ellingham, Geoff Garvey

a useful travelling companion!
I used this guide during a recent trip to Andalucia and chose it for the same reason as Sam (see other review). I found it an extremely useful guide for planning an itinerary, and I did not happen upon any major inaccuracies. I guess if you're the kind of person who gets worked up about having to 'waste' an afternoon in Granada (sounds like heaven), or taking a wrong turning on a walk, then you're probably going to be quite hard to please. I took numerous wrong turns and wasted time in some fabulous places, I recommend you buy this book and do the same. Order from UK | US | Canada
