DIPLOMA REQUIRED
"I am a teacher of English (Language and Literature) in a secondary school in the Netherlands. This means that I teach pupils from 12 to 19 years old in all levels. I just spent the summer in Cambridge and found out that I need a TEFL diploma to be allowed to teach in some of the language schools which have been acredited by the British Council. I studied English at a Dutch university for 4 years and one year at the University of Lancaster. After I finished I did a teacher training course of one year. What do I need to get my TEFL (as I am teaching second language learners already)?
"
Gone are the days when any native English speaker seeking a life of travel
and adventure could pursue a successful career as a Teacher of English as a
Foreign/Second Language without experience or qualifications.
Almost all
employers now seek teachers with a TEFL/TESL qualification plus experience,
in addition to a first degree. Many even insist on an MA
Linquistics/TEFL/TESL postgraduate qualification.
With an average of 63 applications for each EFL/ESL post advertised, it is
now more important than ever before for the TEFL/TESL professional to
participate in a recognised course and gain a qualification in Teaching
English as a Foreign/Second Language.
