TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES IN CHINA
with
John Killick
Foreign Teaching Director,
New Century Practical English School, Dalian, China.

John Killick is currently the Foreign Teaching Director at Dalian's New century Practical English School. He is an Australian with a background in business administration. John came to China in 1998 for a short working holiday and enjoyed his experience so much that he decided to stay long-term and develop a career in EFL teaching and School administration. He has been in China for two years now and has gained a great deal of teaching experience in a short time, having taught EFL at the university level, at private schools and as a one-on-one tutor. He has taught both children and adults of all levels. He has also gained a great deal of respect for Chinese people and Culture. As an Administrator, John finds the experience challenging and extremely enjoyable. John's experience shows that China really is a land of opportunity for people with the right attitude!

Dalian New Century Practical English School
New Century Practical English School (NCPES) is an innovative new player on the TEFL scene in China. The school opened in April, 2000, and, in the extremely competitive EFL market in Dalian, has quickly achieved an enrolment of over 600 students, a figure expected to double in the near future. The school offers classes that are tailored to the needs of the students, with the student body comprising both children and adults of all levels of english ability. Having highlighted Chinese students main difficulty in learning english, the school concentrates on developing oral and auditory communicative skills in a relaxed, friendly environment. Another unique approach is the choice of foreign teachers from a variety of countries to provide students with exposure to different accents and vocabulary, demonstrating that english truly is a global language. The success of our Dalian school has prompted us to open a school in another chinese city, Shenyang, in September 2000. There will! be exciting opportunities for prospective EFL teachers in this new century, and we plan to be at the forefront.

The Insider's Guide to Beijing by Adam Pillsbury

Penned by the writers and editors of Beijing's top English magazine "that's Beijing," this 640-page tome covers everything from sightseeing and weekend escapes to finding a job, a home and Beijing's best martini -- with style and wit. This full-color book is chock full of the hard-to-obtain info about living in Beijing that is too in-depth for the travel guidebook: essentials such as how to obtain a driver's license, vets who make house calls, and how to obtain a mortgage. The Insider's Guide to Beijing is an authoritative guide and an illuminating read -- in short, a crucial read for those planning to relocate or travel to the city.
