WILL EXPERIENCE COUNT?
"I returned last year from Sri lanka where I taught at an International school for 2 and a half years. During this period I did teach EFL classes to students. I am now considering spending more time doing this in another country. Though I have some experience, I have no qualifications in this field. Would my time spent in Sri Lanka count for anything or is it advisable to secure some kind of TEFL qualification? There seem to be so many available courses. If I did elect to enrol on a course, are they all pretty much the same? "

A TASTE OF TEFL
| Q. I am half way through a BA education and I am interested in taking the TEFL certificate. I was wondering if there are any opportunities to teach abroad in the summer holidays to give me an insight into the work before I make a commitment of a year.
A. It depends where 'abroad' is. For example many European countries close their language schools in summer but send their students 'abroad' to UK, USA, Australia for summer courses. Recently the UK summer school market has experienced problems in attracting summer school staff and so there may well be opportunities for non-qualified applicants. Alternatively, you might volunteer to assist a teacher in order to get a taste of TEFL.
