DIPLOMA REQUIRED
Q.
I am a teacher of English (Language and Literature) in a secondary school in the Netherlands. This means that I teach pupils from 12 to 19 years old in all levels. I just spent the summer in Cambridge and found out that I need a TEFL diploma to be allowed to teach in some of the language schools which have been acredited by the British Council. I studied English at a Dutch university for 4 years and one year at the University of Lancaster. After I finished I did a teacher training course of one year. What do I need to get my TEFL (as I am teaching second language learners already)?

A.
A Diploma level qualification is designed for those who already have considerable teaching experience. First of all, it may be a good idea to check with the employers you are targetting as to just exactly what it is they require, before you invest time and money in acquiring another qualification.
