TEACHING AS OPPOSED TO ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING QUALIFICATIONS
"What is "PGDE or equivalent" and how does it differ from TESL/TEFL qualifications? I recently saw this in a job advertised for Hong Kong. They were very specific about this. I have the 4 week Cert TESOL and the 6 month Grad Cert in Education (TESOL) and working my way to a Masters in Education (TESOL) in Australia. Is it just a difference in terminology or do you think they meant just something other than the 4 week RSA/Celta/TESOL type course? "

TEACHING BUSINESS ENGLISH IN FRANCE
Q.
I am planning to move to France next year, and would like to use TEFL as a supplementary career. Although I do not have a degree, I have twelve years experience of working in training and management of training. I am 33 year old and consider myself to be articulate and well presented. My goal would be to teach within a business environment on a seasonal basis. Can you tell me what my expectations of TEFL in France should be?

A.
The Business English sector in France used to be a lucrative one and one that demanded well qualified teachers. In the current financial climate, there are probably fewer opportunities. An entry level certificate course in Teaching Business English would be the fastest way in to the profession. This, with your management training experience, would place you as somewhat of a specialist in the Business English market. Much will depend on making good contacts though and building a network.
