ESL endorsement in the US
"My husband is currently enjoying the TEFL program in Costa Rica. My understanding, prior to him attending, was that his course work and/or practicum teaching would count towards him getting his ESL endorsement in Oregon.
He has had a difficult time finding out from the university he attended for his Masters in Teaching (elementary school) whether or not getting certified by your organization will help out...
Do you happen to know how his time spent in the program will benefit him here in the states? I have read that the TEFL program is the best as far as finding a job internationally but I would like to know how it helps in the states as well.
Thank you for any info you can provide, I really appreciate it!

Non-Native Speaker Teachers
| Q. I have a university degree (MA) in teaching English, I am currently working on my PhD dissertation in language pedagogy, and have three years of
experience with secondary school learners in Hungary. The problem is that although I have attended English-speaking schools since the age of 15 and
have a Cambridge Proficiency exam, I will never become a native speaker of English. What are my chances abroad, especially in Europe?
A. I'm pleased to say that prejudice against non-native speaker teachers is declining while appreciation of the added value they can bring to many ELT posts is increasing.
Often private language schools' perceptions are that their clients will only accept a native-speaker teacher. Therefore, it is perhaps a better idea to concentrate your job search on university and/or state appointments.
