Degree or Cert First?
Q.
I am extremely interested in pursuing a career in TESOL. I understand that you need a degree and I was wondering whether I should get the degree first and then the ESL qualification or vice versa. The courses I am interested in at University offer a TESOL module and a year abraod as a language assistant at a school. What is the best direction to take?

A.
One can approach it either way, although it is true to say that most countries now demand a degree for employment as a language teacher. The courses you are considering appear to kill two birds with one stone. The decision has to be yours.
