DEGREE NEEDED?
Q.
I was looking into taking a year off school and teaching English in a foreign country. I currently speak English, French and Spanish. A lot of the job postings I've seen require a BA. Is this true in all cases? I'd love to become certified but if I cannot find a posting without a University degree there is really no point in doing it yet. Please advise.

A.
It is true that increasingly more and more countries are demanding a first degree as the basic qualification for teaching, before granting work permits to foreign nationals. However, it is still possible to get a teaching post with a TEFL/TESL qualification. For example, some summer schools in the UK will employ on this basis. It is a question of keeping in touch with the ESL job market and monitoring the minimum qualifications they ask for.
