TEACHING OVERSEAS WITH A CHARITY
| Q. I would like to put my newly attained TESOL qualification to good use by participating in some charity work. How should I go about this?
A. Congratulations on your recent qualification. Where to start depends on whether you wish to teach at home or abroad. If it is the former, there are often immigrant programs either run by the State or religious or charity organisations that welcome volunteer qualified ELT staff. If you are prepared to travel, then organisations such as AMITY, VSO, Teachers for Africa etc. advertise regularly and most also have Websites from where you could make initial contact. Some do require experience, so perhaps a mix of the two might well suit your purpose.
