FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS?
"I am interested in teaching English in Italy, but cannot find any information on suitable courses for me. I understand that I need formal qualifications to be able to undertake a TEFL course, unfortunately I do not have this. Are there any courses available that do not require formal qualifications? - S.P. "

I WANT TO TRAVEL... and teach!
| Q. I have a degree and two years' experience as a Personal Assistant. I would like to travel and think that the easiest way would be to teach English while I am abroad. How do I get started?
A. While one of the benefits of teaching abroad is undoubtedly the experience of living in another country and culture, teaching English as a foreign or second language is a serious profession which demands specific skills and qualifications. I would suggest you first research what preparatory TEFL/TESL courses are on offer in your area and exactly what they involve. It is also a good idea to speak to practising teachers about what the job entails. You may find it is indeed something you are interested in doing as a further step in your career. Alternatively, you may find that your skills may be better suited to opportunities, e.g within the travel industry.
