  THE MATURE TEACHER IN SPAIN...
"I am 62, have a BA Hons.degree, Teaching Certificate + Diploma in TESOL from a UK teacher training college.I am hoping to buy a flat/house in Spain/Mallorca shortly. I have many years teaching experience in Sierra Leone as well as in Britain. For the last nine years I have worked as a Section 11 teacher in inner London dealing with children whose first language is not English. The Diploma course was rigorous and I gained an A grade but did not have a teaching component. (I have taught all ages - in Sierra Leone I taught adults and secondary). Could I find a ESOL post there do you think (preferably with young children) or would I be considered too old? Is there any country otherwise where I might be considered?"

JOINT APPLICATIONS?
Q.
We are a teaching couple, new to the profession. Is it a help or a hindrance to submit joint applications?

A.
Impossible to say. Some schools welcome teaching couples for a variety of reasons. For example, if they have a number of posts to fill, they fill two in one fell swoop; they may consider that having an accompanying partner, the new teacher/s have more moral support and settle in more easily; accommodating two is often easier than one etc. On the other hand, others may not be so open to joint applications if,e.g., for whatever reason, they would like to employ one of you but not the other. I would go for individual applications but mentioning that you will be accompanied. The decision is yours.
