  QUALIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTARY TEACHING OVERSEAS
"I am 46 and am at the moment working on an MA in Women's History at Royal Holloway University of London. My BA is also in History. What I am looking for is information on how I go about getting the necessary qualifications which will enable me to work as a volunteer abroad. I have no idea where, I suspect that will depend on where I can be of use. I have been advised that I would need to do a teaching course. How long do they normally last."

INITIAL STEPS FOR NEW GRADUATES
Q.
I am a recent graduate of History and English Literature and am interested in teaching English overseas. What is the next step?

A.
The next step is to take a TEFL/TESOL qualification with teaching practice. The qualification you choose will depend very much on your personal needs and on what the market demands in the country/countries of your choice. I suggest you peruse the job market on the tefl.com site in order to make a more informed decision.
