TEFL Courses - What's the Difference?
"I am making an enquiry as to the differences between different TEFL courses and qualifications. For example, is an ITC TEFL accepted as widely as RSA or Trinity Certificates? Is studying such a course in Prague as good as studying in the UK and would such a course be accepted widely in various parts of the world? "

TEFL IN THE MALDIVES
Q.
I have a query that I hope you will be able to help me with... I am an English graduate living in Wales and may soon have the oportunity to live and work in the Maldives for a year. From some preliminary research I have discovered that the second language of these islands is English, the first being one unique to the Maldives. I understand the islanders are taught English at school from an early age and that it is the language of commerce and tourism. I have been considering taking a tefl teaching qualification for some time and would like to know if this is something you would recommend. I am not necessarily interested in making money through this, but rather think it would be a brilliant way of meeting a community of people I would otherwise not have the chance to integrate with (my job being tourism related). I would be very grateful if you could give me your opinion on this matter or provide me with some point of contact.

A.
If you intend teaching English either as a foreign (to those with no or little previous contact with English) of second (to those who already have contact with English) language, in all fairness to your students and yourself, you should do a preparatory teaching course. There are many on offer, both face to face and online. We would suggest that you refer to the courses section in http://www.tefl.com
